Recital

Date & Location

The recital will take place at Eagle Eye Theatre:

  • Sunday, June 14 – Matinee & Evening

  • Monday, June 15 – Evening

Students should go straight backstage; check-in is just outside the backstage area. 


Students in our Shooting Stars (Yearly) Program and Constellation (Competitive) Program perform in all 3 shows.


Students in our Little Legends (Preschool) Program participate in 2 of our 3 shows. All preschool students will be performing in the June 14 Matinee show. Classes will be split between the remaining 2 shows.

Arrival & Check-In

Students should arrive 1 hour before the show start time, with hair and makeup done. Costumes can be worn or brought in a labeled garment bag. Once backstage, students will be supervised by parent volunteers. 

Backstage Guidelines

  • Only Dance Directions staff and registered parent volunteers are allowed backstage.

  • Adult males are not permitted backstage as dancers will be changing.

  • Mobile phones, iPads, and other valuables are not allowed backstage.

  • Students cannot leave the venue during the recital, including intermission.

  • Students must be signed out by a parent or guardian at the end of the show.

  • Dancers should bring a quiet activity such as a book or colouring supplies, along with a non-staining snack.

Multiple Routines & Quick Changes

Some dancers may perform in more than one routine. Parent volunteers will assist dancers backstage with costume changes as needed. Adult males are not permitted backstage at any time. We do our best to avoid quick changes with less than two dances in between.

What to Bring

Each student should bring a clearly labeled bag with:

  • Hair supplies: hairspray, gel, hair ties, bobby pins

  • Dance shoes, tights, socks, and recital underwear/undergarments

  • Costume(s) in the labeled garment bag and safety pins

  • Quiet activity for downtime backstage: Book, card games, colouring (no markers)

  • Nutritious snacks and plenty of labeled water (no soft drinks or juice, no nut products)

  • Any medication needed during the day, clearly labeled with instructions

Restrooms

Restrooms are located in the school hallway near the lobby, with one additional restroom backstage.

Finale & Awards

  • The finale brings all students together on stage for a final bow, wearing their last performance costume.

  • Scholarships and awards are presented after the finale.

  • Students cannot leave until the presentations are complete.

  • Professional photographers and videographers will capture the finale and awards—personal photography or videography is strictly prohibited.

Parking

Please park around the back of the school and enter through the main front doors. We expect over 175 audience members per show, so allow extra time.

Lobby Doors

Audience members may begin lining up at 5:30 PM. Doors open at 6:15 PM.

Tickets, Programs & Flowers

Tickets

Recital tickets will be available for purchase starting May 2 through our online ticketing system. Tickets may also be available for purchase at the theatre prior to the show, pending availability. Tickets are $25+GST and applicable ticket fees.
 

Children 3 years and under do not require a ticket unless they will be occupying their own seat.

Programs, Flower, T-Shirts & Video Pre-Orders & Pick-Up

Programs and flowers are available for pre-order through our studio store website HERE for easy pick-up at the theatre on recital day. Payment can be made at the time of pickup. A very limited number of programs and flowers will also be available for purchase at the venue so be sure to pre order to avoid disappointment.

Videos

IH Videography will be on site filming our recital. Digital videos are available to order through the online store or at the front table at recital. Have a family member who can't attend? Or just want to keep reliving the show over and over again? We have you covered.

Show Programs

Our recital programs are designed as a keepsake similar to a school yearbook. Each program includes:

  • Class group photos with dancer names

  • Community supporter advertisements

  • The full recital line-up

Flowers

Giving flowers to a performer after a show is a long-standing recital tradition. Families are welcome to surprise their dancer with flowers following their performance.

Recital Day Tips

  • Arrive on time—shows start promptly.

  • Encourage your dancer to have fun and enjoy the experience.

  • Celebrate your dancer’s hard work after their performance with cheers and hugs—they’ll feed off your positive energy.

  • Quick Changes: If your dancer has more than one costume during the show, parent volunteers will assist them backstage to ensure they are ready for each performance.

Seating & Theatre Etiquette

Our recital uses general admission seating. To ensure a positive experience for all families, we ask everyone to be mindful of theatre etiquette:

  • Please be respectful when saving seats and limit groups to no more than 6 seats together

  • Arrive early if you would like to sit with a larger group

  • If you arrive late, our usher will assist you in finding a seat at an appropriate break between dances

  • Cheering, clapping, and celebrating dancers is absolutely encouraged — your energy helps our performers shine

  • Please avoid yelling individual dancer names during performances so all dancers can be heard and supported

  • If a child becomes distressed or disruptive, please step into the lobby and return when they are ready

  • Consuming alcohol and smoking/vaping are not permitted in the theatre
