General Info

Safety & Sign-In

The safety of our dance family is our top priority. All students must be signed in by a parent or guardian upon arrival at both dress rehearsals and recital, and signed out when leaving. Only Dance Directions staff and registered parent volunteers are permitted backstage.

Note: For privacy and safety reasons, adult males are not allowed backstage as students will be changing.

Dress Rehearsal & Recital Procedures

Dress Rehearsal:
Dress Rehearsal will be held at the Eagle Eye Theatre on Saturday, May 30. Students should arrive by 10:00am with hair and makeup done and their costume on. Check-in is at the theater entrance.

Dress Rehearsal is an important opportunity for:

  • Costume checks and adjustments

  • Practicing routines on stage

  • Practicing the group finale

If dancers have a break longer than 45 minutes between rehearsal segments, they may leave the venue, but must return 20 minutes before their next scheduled rehearsal time. Students may stay for the full rehearsal but cannot leave without being signed out by a parent or guardian.

Recital:
Recital takes place Sunday, June 14 (matinee and evening) and Monday, June 15 (evening) at Eagle Eye Theatre. Students go straight backstage; check-in is just outside the backstage area.

During the recital:

  • Students cannot leave backstage during the show or intermission.

  • A parent volunteer will accompany any student who needs the washroom.

  • Students are to signed out at the end of the show and will not be released unless a parent is present.

What to Bring

All students should have a clearly labeled bag with:

  • Extra hair supplies (hairspray, gel, hair ties, bobby pins, safety pins)

  • Makeup

  • Dance shoes, tights, socks, and recital underwear/undergarments

  • Costumes in the labeled garment bag provided

  • Nutritious snacks that won’t stain costumes (no nuts)

  • Plenty of labeled water (no soft drinks or juice)

Valuables: Mobile phones, iPods, iPads, and laptops are not permitted backstage. The studio and venue are not responsible for lost or damaged items.

Costumes

  • Recital costumes are provided at a rental fee of $75+GST per costume (payment due by November 15).

  • Costumes must be collected during Costume Distribution Week in April and returned immediately after the last recital performance.

  • Do not wash or attempt to repair rented costumes yourself; any damage may incur a $75+GST replacement fee.

  • Shoes, Tights, Makeup & Extras: Details for each class are available in your Parent Portal under the costume info tab.

  • Students must wear recital underwear/undergarments, which should also be worn on Photo Day.

COSTUMES MUST BE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE LAST RECITAL AT THE THEATER TO OUR DESIGNATED COSTUME COLLECTOR.

Costumes not returned will incur a $75 fee immediately.

Finale

The finale includes all students on stage for a final bow and award presentations. Students will wear the costume from their last performance.

Finale rehearsal takes place during Dress Rehearsal—attendance is important so students can practice timing and stage positioning with all classes.
